One of the oldest cities in the country, Boston has been a favorite of tourists since the birth of our nation.  In addition to its rich history, Boston is known for its diverse neighborhoods, amazing seafood, and enthusiastic sports fans.  A Mecca of higher education, Boston is home to many colleges and universities, but offers entertainment for every taste.  Recently, it has earned the nickname “Hollywood of the East” due to the large number of movies filmed in the streets.

EscapeWizard.com invites you to book your next vacation to “Beantown”.  Logan International Airport (BOS), located right in the downtown area and accessible by the “T” (Boston’s public transportation system), is the most convenient way into the city. Boston is an extremely accessible city, with a public transportation system that allows visitors an easy commute to all of the city’s favorite destinations. EscapeWizard.com recommends starting your vacation with a trip to the Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall area of Boston. Here you can follow the Freedom Trail, a path of red bricks leading you to numerous historical sights, do some shopping, and then walk a few minutes along the waterfront to the North End, Boston’s version of “Little Italy.” Take an after dinner stroll along the cobblestone streets and stop in at Mike’s Pastry for some authentic Italian desserts.

For history buffs, Boston is a dream destination.  In addition to the Freedom Trail, visitors can also see the Bunker Hill monument, marking the site of one of the best known battles of the Revolutionary War. While in Charlestown, you can also visit the USS Constitution, the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world.  Other historical places of interest include Plymouth Rock, about an hour south of the city, Trinity Church in Copley Square, and the historic South End neighborhood filled with Victorian-era brownstones.

Boston also has many beautiful spots for visitors to enjoy the outdoors.  During the summer, free concerts and movies are offered at the Hatch Shell, located along the Charles River.  You can also catch a free performance of “Shakespeare in the Park” in the Boston Common, followed by ride on the famous Swan Boats.  Watch airplanes fly close overhead from Castle Island, home to Fort Independence over in South Boston, or rent a kayak for a few hours of paddling.

Outside of the city, even more scenic attractions abound. Only 20 minutes west of downtown Boston lays Walden Pond, where you can go for a swim or see Thoreau’s cabin.  On the “North Shore” you can visit the fishing town of Gloucester or Rockport, an artist colony filled with shops and seafood restaurants. These coastal towns also offer great beaches and, for a quick lunch, you can stop at one of the local clam shacks for a lobster roll.

Boston also has great nightlife. Head down to Lansdowne street, where, next to the famous Fenway Park, you’ll find the House of Blues and Jillian’s, a bar offering pool tables and bowling. The Government Center area of downtown has a large number of popular bars. Boston has any kind of nightlife you can imagine, from small Irish pubs to multi-floor dance clubs.
