Boulder residents are well known for their physically active and green lifestyles. Because of the city's relatively small area, yet dense level of development, many visitors find it easiest to tour the city on bike. A rather straight-forward trail system keeps bikers off the road, adding to the overall peacefulness to this healthy and earth-friendly mode of transportation. Traveling in this matter will also save visitors the trouble of finding parking spaces in heavily trafficked areas, and the anxiety some experience when driving in an unfamiliar city. The Thursday Night Cruiser Ride is a large parade of younger bike riders that invade Boulder streets on a weekly basis. Music pumping from wheeled speakers, extravagant costumes, and psychedelic light shows help keep this event fresh and fun. Most Boulder hotels offer bike rentals, see our accommodation section. The primary trail is Boulder Creek Path, which runs east-west alongside Boulder Creek. North-south trails run off the main path and are clearly marked. Maps are available at most hotels and any tourist booth.

In the warmer months try hiking Chautauqua Park or Rocky Mountain National Park. Hiking can provide a great view of the city below, and a look out onto the mountainous west. If you are looking for more of an extreme adventure, take lessons climbing one of the hundred world-class climbing routes in Eldorado Canyon. Through the months of March to November visitors can stroll to the farmers' market every Wednesday and Saturday, sampling local delicacies and purchasing locally grown vegetables and fruit. Tour the beautiful campus of the University of Colorado, home to nearly 30,000 students and staff. The view from Folsom Field is simply breathtaking, and the red bricked motif lends a particularly quaint and comfortable feel to the campus. Or perhaps, tour the historic neighborhood of Mapleton Hill where visitors can see large Victorian houses of the 19th century. When temperatures begin to drop and the snow begins to fall, do not fret, Eldora Ski Resort is located just 30 miles to the West in the heart of the mountains.

Boulder provides visitors with an exquisite selection of fine dining and a number of bars and clubs that keep the action coming late into the night. Try venturing down Pearl Street to discover the trendiest of these establishments. This pedestrian mall offers visitors with cutting edge fashion and a view into Boulder's eclectic personality. Street performers exhibiting puppetry, musicians, and magicians will entertain the very young to the very old. Visitors can enjoy freshly brewed beer, ethnic delicacies, or a casual drink at a number of popular sports bars. Besides bars and restaurants, the music scene is well-established in Boulder meaning many concerts and performances can be found. Several theaters are located along Pearl Street and the majority of taverns and clubs have stages, offering music on selected nights. A broad range of musical appetites can be satisfied. From hip-hop to bluegrass, you'll be able to experience some of the most the most hip and contemporary concerts in the nation.
