Among the many nicknames that Charlotte, North Carolina is known by, perhaps none is more apt than “The Gem of the South.”  The city boasts a prideful history, one in which resistance to British troops during the American Revolution features prominently.  Today, the same southern passion that helped establish the city over 200 years ago is alive and well, and is sure to impress any traveler eager to experience a little southern hospitality. is your guide for your visit to Charlotte, North Carolina.  Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is located just six miles from uptown Charlotte, and you can book a flight on to the city by using the link here: (  For a place to stay, be sure to browse through the selection of hotels in the accommodations section of, then click here to book (

Once you’ve set foot in “The Gem of the South,” suggests you put the pedal to the metal and visit the NASCAR Hall of Fame, located in Center City Charlotte.  Perhaps nothing is more closely associated with the south than NASCAR, and the newly opened museum certainly does the sport justice.  The museum is stocked full of fun, interactive games and is sure to be a hit among racing enthusiasts and non NASCAR fans alike.  Another museum worth checking out is Discovery Place, which features exhibits ranging from erupting volcanoes to Great White Sharks.  The museum is full of hands-on experiments and has something for all ages, including the biggest movie screen in the state.

Perhaps the only thing that can compete with NASCAR in being representative of the south is soul food, and Charlotte is in no short supply of it.  You can try deep-fried pickles, a southern specialty, or opt for a better known dish like chicken and grits in any number of hole-in-the-wall places.  If you are a barbeque fan, then Charlotte also has you covered with many grill-themed restaurants dispersed throughout the city from Center City to uptown.  If you want something besides southern soul food and rib sticking barbeque, Charlotte also has Mediterranean and Asian themed restaurants as well as several other ethnic dining establishments.

If you are looking for some fun after dinner, suggests visiting EpiCentre.  EpiCentre is a fabulously designed hub that is full of all things nightlife.  Bars, restaurants, shops, and dance clubs line the gigantic complex, which encompasses over one half million square feet.  In the center of all of the action is an outdoor pavilion which offers a view of the Charlotte skyline.  Located in uptown Charlotte, EpiCentre is only a few blocks from the business district of Charlotte, and is also easily accessible via the Charlotte transit system on the LYNX blue line.

It was only fifteen years ago that Charlotte did not have a professional sports team.  Today, both the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League and the Charlotte Bobcats of the National Basketball Association call Charlotte home.  While in Charlotte, suggests taking in a Bobcat game at the Time Warner Cable Arena.  The Arena, which is located uptown, was built in 2005 and is the second newest arena in the NBA.   The Arena also houses the Charlotte Checkers, the American Hockey League affiliate team of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes.

Charlotte is a city with something for everyone, and with a mass transit system in place, nearly all sites are easily accessible.  Click the above link ( to use to book your trip to Charlotte and discover “The Gem of the South” for yourself.
