Consistently rating high in Forbes’ best places to live, Madison makes for a unique vacation destination when seeking a smaller city with lots to offer. Whether you’re looking for culture, a bit of nature, or an affordable place to relax, Madison offers surprising variety throughout its entertaining isthmus.
Where once stood swamp and forest now stands an eclectic city nestled in between two beautiful lakes, Mendota and Monona, making Madison the only nation’s capitol built on an isthmus. Although Madison is a manageable drive from either Milwaukee or Chicago, you can fly directly into Madison’s Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) by booking with EscapeWizard.com. Just follow the link (www.escapewizard.com/flight.php) to make your flight arrangements, and you’ll be on your way. Follow the EscapeWizard.com hotel link (www.escapewizard.com/hotels.php?flag=htl), and you’ll be assisted in finding your perfect hotel accommodations, whether it includes a lakefront view or the convenience of being near campus. Here at EscapeWizard.com, we recommend either Crowne Plaza or the Holiday Inn as 2 of the best hotels in Madison.
Madison’s core is arguably State Street, a six block pedestrian mall featuring a variety of boutiques, bars, coffee shops, restaurants, and in the warmer months, there are performers. At the top of State Street is Madison’s majestic State House, its silhouette prominently shaping the city’s skyline. Within a block’s radius from the capitol square, you’ll find the Veterans Museum, the Children’s Museum, and the Wisconsin Historical Museum. In addition to these outstanding highlights, EscapeWizard.com urges you to explore the many offerings of State Street’s Overture Center, a gorgeous performing arts center that houses several theatres, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, and a rooftop sculpture garden. You’ll see world-class productions and exhibits within this striking facility.
At State Street’s opposite end, you’ll find the beginning of the University of Wisconsin Madison’s sprawling campus. Not only does this Big Ten School bring a decidedly student-fueled energy to the city, it provides attractions any tourist can take advantage of. The university touts a 1200-acre arboretum, canoe, kayak, and sailboat rentals, and live music on its enchanting terrace with Lake Mendota as its backdrop (a must-stop for a hot summer night). EscapeWizard.com recommends accessing this diverse campus’ weekly offerings of sport and culture.
Madison knows how to keep occupied in the colder months with its winter festivals, cozy nightclubs, and yes, ice fishing. However, summer is when Madison really shines. Taking advantage of the short summer, the city hosts almost weekly block parties, music festivals, and one of the United State’s premier beer festivals, The Great Taste of the Midwest. EscapeWizard.com encourages you to find these fun ‘insider’ attractions which all feature splendid music, food, and craft. You’ll enjoy the city like a local and get a true feeling of the city’s spirit.
If getting your body moving is your idea of vacationing, Madison boasts hundreds of miles of bike trails plus the Capitol City trail, a bucolic 41- mile trail between Madison and Dodgeville. This exquisite trail follows an old military road built in 1855 and links several state trails. There are several bike rentals in Madison, each willing to help map out your trip whether it be for an hour or a day. By combining a bike tour along with a visit to one of Madison’s 260 parks or 13 beaches, you can enjoy a day in the great outdoors right inside the city.
Whether you want to enjoy the city’s natural beauty, its cultural offerings, or simply enjoy the town’s laid back attitude, Madison can help you enjoy your next vacation to its fullest. By clicking onto (www.escapewizard.com/flight.php), you can let EscapeWizard.com help you book your next trip to one of the Midwest’s finest capitol cities.
