Beloved by writers, expats, Madrilenos and everyone in between, Madrid is the heart of Spain. Madrid is the bright-eyed capital of the country; a dazzling and adventurous city for those who live and travel passionately. The elegant and energetic spirit of Madrid is legendary, visible in its glorious architecture and the pulsing beat of the nightlife. Here at EscapeWizard.com we know that Madrid is perfect for those who can go all day and into the evening: museums and palaces by day, a siesta, and dancing until dawn before having some churros con chocolate is a typical day during a Madrid vacation.

Getting to and from Madrid is as easy as can be, especially when using EscapeWizard.com’s flight search feature (www.escapewizard.com/flight.php). International flights on most major carriers fly through Madrid’s Barajas International Airport (MAD), which is accessible from Madrid’s city center via the excellent subway service. Train service to both northern and southern destinations can be found through train stations at the Chamartin and Atocha stops on the Madrid transist system. Once travelers reach downtown Madrid, accommodations are plentiful in every price range. Use the EscapeWizard.com hotel finder to locate the best hotel for your Madrid vacation (www.escapewizard.com/hotels.php?flag=htl). Madrid is a heavenly destination for art lovers. The Golden Museum Triangle includes the Reina Sofia National Museum and Art Center, home of Madrid’s biggest modern art collection; the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum of Art and its works by classic and modern artists; and the Museo del Prado. EscapeWizard.com recommends the Prado which is renowned for its collection of art by Bosch, Velazquez, Caravaggio, and El Greco. Not all of Madrid’s artistry is contained within museums; the magnificent Palacio de Telecomunicaciones is an incredible structure that is likely the most ornate post office you will ever see. Madrid is also the home of Spain’s royal family, and the grand Palacio Real and gardens are not to be missed. And lastly, EscapeWizard.com recommends seeing the Toledo Arch during your stay in the city.

Though Madrid has one of the best transit systems in Europe, few cities are as enjoyable to walk through as Madrid and here at EscapeWizard.com we highly recommend taking a stroll to take in the sites of the city.  Numerous plazas, such as Plaza Mayor, encourage long conversations and people watching.  This is a good jumping off point for walking tours of Sol, Gran Via, and through El Retiro, an extensive and pretty park.  Further neighborhoods worth exploring are GLBT-friendly Chueca, the student-heavy borough of Moncloa, and the cafes and artsy charm of Tribunal.

One of the best aspects of Madrid is the nightlife, and here at EscapeWizard.com we recommend making sure to take in a night on the town during your stay. The night generally begins around 11pm, after a late dinner. Madrid has a variety of bars and clubs scattered throughout the city. One of the most famous is Kapital, a seven-story mecca of music and dancing. The Palacio Gaviria is designed to look a 16th century palace and has a few floors with different types of music. Wandering through Madrid’s Gran Via or Sol neighborhoods after-hours is sure to provide ample opportunity to enjoy oneself at any kind of venue.

Sometimes overlooked in favor of Paris or Rome, Madrid, Spain has more than enough to hold its own as a vacation destination. There’s no shortage of fun or cultural sights in this incredible mountain city. Using EscapeWizard.com, a rollicking vacation in Madrid is only a few clicks away!
