IBM InfoSphere Software is sailing with Princess CruisesA subsidiary of Carnival Corporation, Princess Cruises, will be utilizing IBM InfoSphere Warehouse software in order to improve how they market their cruise line to the general public. The software is designed to measure the effectiveness of their marketing practices. As a complement to its marketing, Princess Cruises is going to use InfoSphere to analyze data that will determine which marketing practices are the most successful and which ones do not do the job in drawing passengers to the lines 17 ships.
Lou Fournier, vice president for information systems technology, says that InfoSphere was chosen because it is compatible with the existing infrastructure in which princess cruises operates. It is software that is proven to perform well and also provides added tools to help the company evaluate both marketing and management strategies in an effort to make them better. InfoSphere also takes care of certain IT requirements that make sure the most important applications are running correctly. A good example is of a process that took 10 hours to complete will now have the ability to complete in 10 minutes. Storage capacity of data is also reduced by up to 70%.
