16.09.2008. 15:24 After a Year, Sheraton Hotels Debut Surface APIt has been a year since Sheraton hotels indicated they would step a little further into the technological age. And now they can because of a little help from Microsoft. This partnership has allowed Sheraton Hotels and Resorts to finally install their first units in hotels within the United States. What Sheraton Hotels aim to do is bring a bit more life to the lobbies of their hotels by installing Microsoft Surface in all of its facilities. The Microsoft Surface Ap is actually the first surface computer that is commercially available that features touch-based technology that is intuitive. It is meant to both inform and entertain.
These surface units are now being installed into the lobbies of the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers, the Sheraton Boston Hotel, the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers, the Sheraton Seattle Hotel, and the Sheraton Gateway San Francisco Airport Hotel.
However, what Microsoft Surface does is break down the usual barriers between technology and people, which provides a simple and quick way to access entertainment and information. Sheraton will be the first hotel to ever offer this computer, which will create a brand new experience because people will be able to interact, achieve connectivity, and do so in a social setting. This will provide guests with a great way to explore the local highlights in the area that they are visiting, which will enhance their hotel stay immensely.
Area Managing Director of the Sheraton New York Hotel, Dan King, was recorded as saying, Our guests are life enthusiasts, and they have a core value to be connected with home and family. So this is a natural for them, He goes on to say, Its an important aspect of Sheratons new lobbies and these tables are a way for people to be alone without being alone. The second we put them in they were busy all day long. They are comfortable for families, single travelers and couples.
Microsoft Surface consists of a 30-inch display that looks like a type of table. This allows several guests to use it at the same time. The user interface works without having to use a mouse or a keyboard. It allows people to interact with information and various other forms of content in a more familiar and natural type of way…through the use of hand gestures.
Each unit will contain entertainment and valuable information about local attractions. The unique and customized applications are designed solely with the purpose to meet the needs of the core guests, which usually consist of social individuals looking to have an incredible traveling experience.
