US Airways Goes for the Gold with Fare Sale to 2016 Olympic Games Host City Rio de Janeiro

US Airways is set to begin daily, non-stop service from its Charlotte, N.C. hub to the newly elected host city of the 2016 Olympic Games – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – on Dec. 15. Customers can score great savings on flights to Rio de Janeiro when they book their trip by Nov. 15 and begin travel between Jan. 7 and Feb. 10, 2010.

*US Airways, like the Olympic Games, is going to South America for the first time,* said Senior Vice President, Marketing and Planning, Andrew Nocella. *US Airways customers can enjoy affordable fares and a flight schedule that allows for easy connections from 82 cities to Rio de Janeiro.*

The new route is US Airways* first service to South America and the airline*s fifth new international route this year. The flight will originate at the airline*s hub in Philadelphia and continue on to Charlotte and Rio de Janeiro. Service between Charlotte and Rio de Janeiro will be operated with Boeing 767 aircraft with seating for 18 in Envoy, US Airways* international business class, and 186 in the main cabinPart of the service may be provided by US Airways Express (operated by Air Wisconsin, Chautauqua, Colgan, Mesa, Piedmont, PSA, Republic and Trans States) or United®.

*Terms and conditions: Advertised fares are roundtrip and require a roundtrip purchase. Fares are available for purchase through Nov. 15, 2009. Fares require a 2-night minimum stay. Fares are valid for travel commencing between Jan. 7 – Feb. 10, 2010; fares for travel outside this period may be higher. Sale fares are limited and may not be available on all flights.

Fares do not include a federal excise tax of $3.60 per segment (a segment is defined as a takeoff and a landing), the September 11th Security Fee of $2.50 per flight segment, Passenger Facility Charges of up to $18 per roundtrip itinerary, international taxes and fees of up to $115 roundtrip. Tickets must be purchased within 24 hours of making the reservation. Tickets are non-refundable; any changes to flights will incur a minimum $250 fee. Taxes and fees are subject to change based on currency fluctuation and government-imposed changes. Tickets purchased through our ticket office incur additional fees of up to $45.
