The city offers a wide variety of sites, sounds and activities to appeal every type of traveling personality. Here at EscapeWizard.com, we know that no matter how long your visit, Raleigh has it all for the travelista in you.

Not sure what to do when you arrive into Raleigh? EscapeWizard.com recommends a visit to the State Capitol Building in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Learn some of the legends and ghost stories in this self guided tour. The Capitol Building is part of the Raleigh Heritage Trail that visitors can follow for a unique historical experience. From the Capitol Building, you can hop across the street and tour the North Carolina Museum of History or the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. EscapeWizard.com recommends for some family fun, take the kids to see the Animal Grossology exhibit at the Natural Sciences museum. If you are feeling free spirited and don’t mind walking downtown, tour the nearby historic Oakwood area, a Victorian style neighborhood featuring a graveyard with notable Raleigh historic figures entombed there.

If you are planning a visit to the area in mid-October EscapeWizard.com recommends the North Carolina State Fair as an absolute can’t miss. The fair is the largest state event as well as one of the largest 10 day agricultural fairs in the country. For the food fanatic, this event provides some of the most interesting deep fried foods imaginable. Of course no visit to Raleigh is complete without sampling fine Carolina barbecue. The state is home to two styles of barbecue, North Carolina Eastern Style sauce and Western Style Dip. In Raleigh, you can get a taste of the more vinegar based Eastern Style Sauce. Head west towards Lexington, North Carolina and experience the more tomato based Western Style Dip.

Raleigh also hosts the World Beer Festival held in downtown Moore Square in April. The city is also home to several microbreweries which offer tours and tastings. If wine is more your liking, North Carolina is home to more than 90 wineries. Here in the Triangle Area, EscapeWizard.com recommends the Chatham Hill Winery tour. The winery is located west of Raleigh and is the state’s first Urban Winery. A listing of these tours can be found http://www.visitraleigh.com/visitors/things_to_do/tours_itineraries/wineries.php.

Raleigh has something for every visitor. Music lovers can enjoy venues large and small. Raleigh ranks as of one the Best Small Concert Venues around. Visitors can tune in on small venues like Cary’s Koka Booth Amphitheater or more bigger shows at the Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek.  EscapeWizard.com recommends Raleigh’s Alive After Five or the free all day multi-event Bud Light Raleigh Downtown Live featuring nationally acclaimed artists.

Visiting sports lovers have an all access pass to any of the collegiate sports that are happening in the area. Raleigh is considered the collegiate sports capital of the nation. In addition, Raleigh is also home to the NHL Carolina Hurricanes and the Carolina Mudcats baseball team if you are looking for something more professional.

The greater Raleigh area is part of Wake County’s effort to preserve open space. Raleigh has more than 4300 acres of parkland and about 1400 acres of water offering year round outdoor activities.  EscapeWizard.com recommends visiting places like Pullen Park, Yates Mill Historical Park or the American Tobacco Trail for your recreational pleasure.
