Just enter the terminal at the Tucson International Airport (TUS), and you know you’re in for a special glimpse of the southwest. The colors and the décor both greet you warmly. If it’s your first time in Tucson, it will fill you with happy anticipation. But if you are a returning visitor, it’s like coming home again. You may book your flight through EscapeWizard.com by using the link, (www.escapewizard.com/flight.php).

Your vacation time has a lot to do with where you are staying. You may book accommodations through EscapeWizard.com by following the link to the hotel portion of our website (www.escapewizard.com/hotels.php?flag=htl).

EscapeWizard.com suggests getting in touch with the area by visiting one of its most popular attractions: Old Tucson. Originally built for western movie sets in the early forties, it was completely destroyed by fire in the early nineties. But this area of the city was restored to a condition quoted as “better than ever.”  There are displays of costumes worn by movie stars and some from Little House on the Prairie, which was also filmed in the city. Gunfights are regularly scheduled and stuntmen demonstrate how easy it is to be thrown through a window, roll down a roof and fall onto the street below. Don’t forget to catch the show at the Red Dog Saloon.

The Sonoran Desert Museum is just a little further down the road. In this museum, all of the plants and animals indigenous to the area are kept and neatly cared for. EscapeWizard.com warns not to be surprised to see a caretaker holding a snake in his lap while lecturing to an interested group. Perhaps you would prefer to stay nearer to the aviary, home to dozens of hummingbirds.

San Xavier del Bac is just south of the city and just a few minutes from the turnoff on Interstate 19.  EscapeWizard.com recommends it is worth a visit during your next vacation to Tucson. It is a lovely old mission church called The White Dove of the Desert, very ornate and quite beautiful.  San Xavier del Bac was built by the locally beloved Father Kino and Native Americans.

On the east side, EscapeWizard.com recommends a stroll through Trail Dust Town on Tanque Verde Road. There you will find the Museum of the Horse Soldier, a history of the US Cavalry.  The museum has uniforms, weapons and all sorts of memorabilia on display used and worn by these brave horsemen from US military history. While in Trail Dust Town, you might want to stop in at Pinnacle Peak for a libation; just don’t wear your favorite tie. The bartender will clip it off with great ceremony and hang it along side of those taken from other greenhorns.

Sabino Canyon is close by, and it is like stepping into another world. It is always filled with hikers and joggers any season of the year. EscapeWizard.com suggests the tram ride for busy tourists.  A small open car train pulls you up and through the canyon. Periodically, moonlight rides are also offered. Wild nocturnal animals are often sighted on these evening trips.

From there, you can continue to follow Tanque Verde Road to the Catalina Highway and follow the winding road to the highest peak in the Catalina Mountains. A small town and ski resort called Summerhaven is there. It is rebuilt as the result of a severe forest fire, but the ski lift still runs. It offers a scenic view of the valley below. Vacationers should plan on a full day of skiing or snowboarding while at Summerhaven. EscapeWizard.com says to be sure to take a sweater in the summer, and plan on a parka and boots in the wintertime.

After witnessing one of Tucson’s spectacular sunsets, you may find restaurants of all cuisines and exciting nightlife. Whether you’re into karaoke or want to learn the Boot Scootin’ Boogie, it’s all there.

EscapeWizard.com knows you will want to return to Tucson, Arizona. We have yet to mention the events of February, the Gem and Mineral Show and the Fiesta de los Vaqueros, the rodeo. So think ahead and plan that next vacation by following our link from above, (www.escapewizard.com/flight.php).
