Fiji is an archipelago made up of 332 island and 522 smaller islets. The largest island is Viti Levu whose interior is slathered with rugged mountainous terrain and thick tropical forests.  Suva is the capital, located on the east side and home to approx 3/4 of the population.  Most travelers will visit Nadi however, located on the West Coast, and home to the International airport. Escape Wizard recommends only using Nadi as a gateway, as there are so many islands to explore and so little time to do it!

Unless you have a unlimited budget or a lot of time up your sleeve, the Mamanuca Island chain just west of Nadi is a great place to start.  They are located far enough off the mainland to make you feel isolated in tropical paradise, but close enough to be accessible for both budget and time constraints.  The island chain is a popular tourist destination, with Malololailai being at the center.  Choose one of the 20 dream islands such as Treasure, Bounty, South Sea, or Manu.  Shack up and stay for a week, suck down a Pina Colada or two!  Don't forget a visit to Monuriki, the main location for the 2000 film Cast Away!  Or visit Beachcomber, where the party goes all night long.

If you can't decide between the islands, an Island Hopper Pass might be your answer.  If you have time you can cruise further north to the Yasawa Island Chain.  These islands become even more remote and exclusive.  Turtle Island is one of Fiji's most famous resorts and was the main location for the 1980 filming of the romance adventure film The Blue Lagoon.

Around every corner lies another beach that you swear is more beautiful then the last, and in between vast coral reefs stretch out forming a snorkeler’s playground.  You don't have to go far to see all the glory of this pristine underworld, but more experienced Scuba Divers may want to consider a domestic flight out to the island of Taveuni.  Off the coast lies the famous Rainbow Reef, in the narrow Somosomo Strait, which is known for its swift currents and also its world-class soft coral dive areas.  If you get tired of hanging out with the fish, come up for air one afternoon and take a stroll to Bouma Falls.  Tavenui is abundant with flora and is known as the "Garden Island" - so there is much to explore both above and below.

For such a small island nation, Fiji certainly has a lot to offer.  Whatever your budget or travel style may be, Fiji seems to cater to the wants and needs of its visitors from across the globe. From camping to luxury lodges or beach bungalows, Fiji has just the right place for you - and can help you find it!

The best thing about Fiji is the people.  Fijians have genuine hospitality that is refreshingly perfect, making the country a great place to visit.  In Fiji they say "Fiji Time".  Come to Fiji to slow down, kick back, and let your worries drift away with the tide.  What are you waiting for?
