Portland, Oregon lies on the northern state border, approximately sixty miles from the Pacific coast. The best way to see Portland is by bicycle. The city is mostly flat and very accessible through this form of transportation. Built in 1896, the station is still in use by Amtrak and other rail companies. Stroll around the station to enjoy the preserved decor and architectural style of the era when rail was the only way to travel. East of the river, you might notice a couple of imposing glass pillars indicating the Portland Convention Center. The convention center often hosts a variety of expos and programs that are well worth a visit. Just next door to the convention center you will find Rose Stadium, home to the Portland Blazers NBA team. highly recommends taking in a NBA basketball game during your vacation in the city.
A trip to Portland would be incomplete without seeing the neighborhoods on Portland's east-side. In the north east, you will find the Alberta arts district. During the day, people can be seen sipping coffee or shopping at any number of boutiques or art galleries along this street. Alberta Street is also famous for its summer monthly “Last Thursday” art walk, during which art vendors, food vendors, and artists of any kind can set up shop along the street, and a veritable fair ground, emerges on the street. invites you to take a break and relax with a cup of coffee as the locals do on this artsy street.
