Lake Tahoe is one of America’s ultimate active tourist destinations. Bordering California and Nevada state lines, the lake is host to more activities than a tourist (or resident) can count. Year-round, the lake area offers outdoor adventures including ski resorts, SCUBA diving, hiking, and golf. Indoor options include gambling, a notorious Nevada pastime, and award-winning restaurants on either side of the border. Families, couples, and solo travelers will find the Lake Tahoe region to be a playground of exciting opportunities, creating lasting memories and future trips.
As a popular tourist destination, invites you to book your flight to this exciting destination through the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) today (! Lake Tahoe is most known for its surrounding ski areas, the largest being the Heavenly Mountain Resort, but the most famous being Squaw Valley, home of the 1960 Winter Olympics. Squaw Valley features 33 chairlifts and the only funitel lift in America, carrying skiers to a wide range of runs for all ability levels, with an even distribution of green, blue, and black diamond runs. The longest run goes for 3.2 gloriously beautiful miles over powdery terrain that gets over 450 inches a year of snowfall. The park also has night skiing and three terrain parks. If you are visiting Lake Tahoe during the summer and do not want to miss the action, Squaw Valley also hosts the annual July Wanderlust Festival with yoga and leading musical acts.
Also during the summer months in Lake Tahoe, recommends the numerous hiking trails throughout the area. The most famous trail is the 165 mile Tahoe Rim Trail which circles the lake--a 360-degree panorama of one of the most breathtaking tourist destinations in the world. No motorized travel is allowed on any part of the trail, guaranteeing quiet, safety, and a real chance to get away from the bustle below (mountain bikes, skis, and equestrian travel is allowed). The trail is open year-round but is not marked in the winter months, so be sure to check with a guide about conditions and your skill ability before taking on this incredible journey.
After a day on the Olympic-level ski runs and a sublime mountain hike, the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe is a great place for some relaxing or equally riling gambling. Numerous hotels and independent casinos offer every type of machine or card game imaginable, strewn about the north shore side of the lake in Crystal Bay and Incline Village, or on the south shore in the Stateline area. Without a doubt, these casinos will whet every gambler’s appetite year-round and all day (and night) long.
During the summer months, golf is a popular game for those who prefer more manicured terrain than a mountain trail while the ski runs are closed. The Lake Tahoe area alone is home to nearly forty golf courses, including executive 9 hole courses and award-winning 18 hole courses. Northstar at Tahoe on the north shore of the lake features not only snow activities during the winter but an 18 hole course during the summer months and also shops, restaurants, and other attractions like a skating rink! Northstar is just one of the premier golf courses in the area, with more like it in one excellent destination.
