The first thing every weary traveler wants to do when they land in Vieques is head to the beach! invites you to sample the islands unfailingly beautiful beaches depending on what you are searching for. Navio Beach, which happens to be the filming location for Lord of The Flies,  is a short drive from either of the islands two towns—Esperanza and Isabel II—and provides bodysurfing on rough days and sparkling sand and calm surf on fair days. For an excellent snorkeling experience for any level of ability, Green Beach on Vieques’ northern coast provides large shelves of reef less than 10 feet from the shore! The reefs are home to a large variety of crabs and lobsters, and viewing the occasional octopus or stingray is far from rare! Circling the tiny Cayo Juan off the far tip of Playa de la Chiva also makes for an exciting trip, with long exploded US Navy shells still visible in the shallow surf.
After getting a tan and exploring the beach, recommends treating yourself to a round of mixed drinks at the many bars which line the malecon—an oceanside walkway—in Esperanza for the perfect Pina Colada or Painkiller. For dinner, try some Puerto Rican style seafood at any of several bars and restaurants along the little strip. Up until 2000, Vieques served as an American naval base, and many bunkers which date back as late as World War II dot the North Western part of the island. Also visible are the ruins of sugar plantations and a massive radio emitter which you will encounter traveling along a beautiful mountain road near Club Tumby.

Before you leave, strongly suggests you tour the Bioluminescent Bay, often called the 8th wonder of the world. Trips run at night, and will take you out into a protected cove where every pebble thrown in the water leaves a bright green trail of light, and fish can be seen swimming even at midnight. Travelers can opt to take a swim in the bay right off the boat, and watch as their own hands create ripples of light in the water.
